A Moreno Valley man whose laptop was stolen was arrested this week after police found child pornography on his computer when it was recovered, authorities said Thursday.
Investigators with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrested Lawrence Tibbals Beal, 63, on suspicion of possession of child pornography.
The case began Sunday when police investigated a burglary in the 23700 block of Redbark Drive in Moreno Valley. Three suspects were arrested for the alleged break-in, including two juveniles.
One of the suspects allegedly admitted committing a second burglary: stealing Beal’s laptop computer, authorities said. According to a statement released by the sheriff’s department, the burglars were trying to extort money from Beal.
Investigators took possession of Beal’s computer and executed a search warrant on his home. He was taken into custody Tuesday.
Beal is being held at the Larry D. Smith Correction Facility in Banning. His bail has been set at $50,000.
